Rosita had her first professional one-person show in Panama in 1963, where she had been living for several years.  But we have no record of her artwork.

In 1964, she moved to Mexico City, and lived there with her two young sons until 1971.  In Mexico, Rosita rented a rooftop room in the apartment building where she lived and turned it into her studio.  Such rooms were generally used by maids who worked for residents living in the building.  She also rented a cabin as a “getaway” studio in Acopilco, a suburb on the road to Toluca.

Her first exhibit in Mexico was November 1965. She received considerable publicity for all her shows in Mexico, including the very first one in the Galerias Excelsior in Mexico City

The clippings indicate the paintings Rosita showed were scenes of Mexico.

One of the clippings has the names of the paintings that she exhibited at the Excelsior, but there is no way to identify the actual paintings from the names.

It is quite impressive that she had so much publicity already in her first show.  Rosita’s work also attracted excellent reviews right from the start.  As example, this review by the Mexico City art critic Margarita Nelken.  “…The poetic projections of her representations of reality are enhanced by a perfect management of color combinations,” Nelken wrote.

Years later, in 1979, Rosita arranged a show in the same Galerias Excelsior. That’s when she and her husband Marty drove to Mexico City from Los Angeles in their Datsun loaded up with suitcases and paintings.
